Far?Red and Near?Infrared Boron Schiff Bases (BOSCHIBAs) Dyes Bearing Anionic Boron Clusters

Here, we report a short series of six new boron Schiff bases (BOSCHIBAs), four them bearing anionic clusters. The complexes (1–2) were synthesized by the multicomponent reaction. Boron appropriately functionalized with cluster anions [B12H12]2? (3–4) and [3,3’-Co(C2B9H11)2]? (5–6). Remarkably, BOSCHIBAs showed fluorescence emission to NIR far-red regions (3: 747 nm, 4: 690 nm), while 5 6 exhibited in UV region (5: 525 6: 475 nm). Notably, 2, 5, highest photostability, followed 1 3, which suggest that nature influences photostability properties. Compounds 3–4 represent first example exhibiting regions, make potential candidates as probes for bioimaging.

The synthesis of boron-pyridyl-imino-isoindoline dyes, a novel type of BODIPY analogue, involves a facile and scalable two-step reaction. Broad envelopes of intense vibrational bands are observed for the main spectral bands in the absorption and emission spectra.
